Devlog #7 — Build Your Own Space Station 🛰️

This is the biggest thing I've ever added to Solar Drift. You can now build your own space station — out in the open void — walk around inside it, furnish it, and watch it lock into orbit around a planet while you live in it.

🛰️ Raise It From Nothing

Float out of your ship with your multi-tool in hand and hit [B]. A green grid snaps into the void. Lay down blocks and wall off a sealed room — a 3×3 enclosed space is the minimum. Leave it open and the vacuum claims it: the whole structure spins apart the second you leave build mode. But seal it tight, and the magic begins.

🪐 Physics Takes Over

The finished station doesn't just sit where you built it. It drifts off toward the nearest celestial body and settles into a slow, circular orbit — dashed orbit line and all. One tip: don't build right next to a planet, or its gravity will drag you and your station in. Give it some room, and let the laws of physics put it where it belongs.

🚶 A Living Room in Orbit

Here's the part that nearly broke me. The station is moving — constantly — and yet you can walk around inside it like solid ground: footsteps, shadow, the works. No frozen orbit, no fake static room, no compromise. The station keeps circling the planet out in the world while the floor under your boots stays rock-steady. A real, moving station with a real, living interior.

🛋️ Make It Home

Drop in the same furniture you know from your shelter. A Mainframe to save your game, a CryoBed to sleep through to the next planet, an Auto-Doc to patch yourself up (with a satisfying green flash), and a cooking station — where the window looks out on stars streaking past as you orbit. Everything tucks behind and in front of you correctly as you move around, exactly like on a planet's surface.

💾 And It's Yours to Keep

The whole station saves and rebuilds perfectly on load — every block, every piece of furniture, the orbit, the exact angle. Save at the Mainframe, load back in, and you wake up right there inside your station, gear and all.

I also rebuilt the audio under the hood, so world sounds now play in proper stereo — what happens on your left, you hear on your left.

The void is yours to build in now. Go claim a piece of orbit. 🚀
