Devlog #7 — Build Your Own Space Station 🛰️
This is the biggest thing I've ever added to Solar Drift. You can now build your own space station — out in the open void — walk around inside it, furnish it, and watch it lock into orbit around a planet while you live in it. 🛰️ Raise It From Nothing Float out of your ship with your multi-tool in hand and hit [B]. A green grid snaps into the void. Lay down blocks and wall off a sealed room — a 3×3 enclosed space is the minimum. Leave it open and the vacuum claims it: the who

Devlog #6 — Boarding Wrecks & The Dark Hunt
This is the update I’ve been most excited to share. You can finally board those derelict ships drifting between planets. What started as a simple looting mechanic has evolved into a tense, pitch-black game of cat and mouse. 🛰️ The Clock is Ticking Dock your ship and step inside, but move fast. Every wreck is unstable, giving you a random 20 to 90-second countdown before the hull breaches. Inside, you'll find an empty husk, a dead crewmate, or a hostile space pirate. Grab wha

Devlog #5 — Performance Boosts, Smart Missiles, and the itch.io Demo
The last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of development. I've been deep in the trenches focusing on performance optimization, crushing bugs discovered during local playtests, and preparing the very first public demo for itch.io. 🚀 Building Big Without the Lag In Solar Drift, you can cover entire planets with buildings and iron walls. However, the more you built, the worse the framerate dropped. I tackled this data-first using the Godot 4.6 profiler. By switching to

Devlog #4 — Survival, Cooking, Wreck Scavenging
It's been a while since my last update, but I haven't been idle: the latest update adds a complete survival layer to the game. 💧 Hunger, Thirst, and Culinary Arts Hunger and thirst bars have appeared on the HUD, which you'll need to keep an eye on from now on, or your health will suffer. You can crunch on harvested crops raw—brought to life by new sound effects—but true survivors use the cooking pot. Meals prepared here don't just fill you up; they also grant useful buffs,

Devlog #3 — NPCs and Wrecks
🧑🚀 NPCs are here. Other survivors drift between the planets. Walk up, talk to them, hear their stories — and walk away with something you didn't have before. Seeds, gear, maybe more. They each want something. Some of them are willing to trade. 🔧 Repair on the fly. Your multi-tool now patches up your own ship — shield first, then hull. No more limping home. Works on the ground. Works mid-spacewalk. Wherever you're hurting, the beam can fix it. ⏳ Time finally behaves. Insid

🌅🌙 Devlog #2 — The sun went down. Now what?
Solar Drift — v0.75.5 ALPHA Day and night have arrived on the planet surfaces. From dawn's pink-blue through crystal-clear noon white, into orange sunset, then deep blue-purple night. Below the stat bar on your HUD, a small clock is ticking — one glance and you know where the sun stands on the planet you're on. But this isn't just visuals. Your solar power plant shuts down at night. ⚡🚫 The whole grid dies with it — pumps, lamps, auto-turret, the glow on your storage crate, e

🚀 Devlog #1 — A Week of Polish, Power, & Plant Life! 🌿
Hi everyone! It’s been a massive week for SolarDrift. I’ve been focusing heavily on making the solar system feel more alive and responsive. Here is the list of new features: 🛸 New Ships & Fixes: I added 6 completely redesigned, animated ship hulls!
